Chris Coole is a Canadian folk musician who has toured and performed with the likes of The Foggy Hogtown Boys, Erynn Marshall, Ivan Rosenberg, David Francey, and currently, The Lonesome Ace Stringband. He is known for his interpretation of Southern old-time music, as well as his original songs and instrumentals, played on clawhammer banjo and guitar. As a collaborator or sideman, he has played on over 200 recordings. Chris has released 2 solo albums to date - "Old Dog" (2009) and "The Tumbling River" (2016) which Froots magazine called "Unassumingly excellent old-time country music".
Chris has spent his "covid year" teaching banjo and writing songs. His original songs have been recorded by artists such as Eli West, The Grasscals, BEML (Bill Evans & Megan Lynch), Jenny Whiteley, The Sweet Lowdown, and Darren Nicholson. Through scores of workshops, an instructional DVD, and 28 years of private lessons, he has taught a league of people how to play clawhammer banjo. He continues to have a passion for music education.
Chris has toured across North America, Europe, Australia, and Isreal, playing festivals such as Wintergrass, Merlefest, Rockygrass, Joe Val Memorial, Mariposa, and the Winnepeg Folk Festival. Although he's enjoyed his year at home, he currently looks forward to getting back on the road!
